The 4 Imperative Rules of Building a Business on eBay in 2007

Ebay is among the largest sales portals on the Internet and offers many types of products through various businesses in a way that is hard to equal on any other website on the Internet. There are numerous sellers who have witnessed an increase in their profits by using the Ebay auction portal.

You too can do the same by offering your prospective customers all the conveniences Ebay has to offer when it comes to buying your products. By being on Ebay you are establishing your credibility as a serious professional who has quality products and services to offer.

There are some things that you need to know before you join Ebay as a seller.

First, read and understand Ebay policies and terms and conditions so that your activities do not land you in trouble through ignorance. While there are many products of all sorts being sold Ebay still has restrictions on the type of products it permits. By understanding and following these rules you are protecting yourself in case something does go wrong through no mistake on your part.

Once you are familiar with the rules you need to identify your target customer base. This is nothing but a market survey to understand what is going on on Ebay. Understanding the market and your customers will help you figure out what titles and keywords to use in the description content so users can find your product easily. Also make note of the fee that Ebay charges for specific product types. This will help you adjust the selling price so that you do not suffer a loss when Ebay and paypal deducts its running costs. As a seller you should be aware of the old rule that the customer is always right. Set up your Ebay shop so that customers have absolutely nothing negative to say about you.

Ebay offers many payment schedules and you will have to choose from among them. When listing an item you should always include the payment type you will accept so that customers are clear on the payment options available to them. Also include the shipping or delivery time and always stick to your promises, if you promise to deliver within 5 days then make sure you deliver in 5 days. If you suspect it might take longer than use 7 days or 10 days. Better to be honest than regret it later.

Just listing your product is one way of selling but not the most profitable. There are many skills involved in making a healthy volume of sales. You must target at building a strong customer base and the way to do that is to over deliver and over deliver. By over delivering customers will recommend you to friends and your Ebay business will grow. This is the extra bit that all master sellers on Ebay put in.

Your focus should be on building a stable business. Do not fall for the lure of fast profits. Do not go for the quick buck, go for long lasting revenue. Do not try and squeeze a few more dollars from your customers if it will cause them to distrust you.

The successful Ebay sellers are always researching what customers want and that is exactly what you must do.
